The Loughborough Aces move into the 2011/12 season hungry to win their 4th National Title which has eluded them in recent seasons. Last season ended on a slightly disappointing note with a close loss to the Birmingham Lions in the Quarter Final of the Playoffs, where the Aces were decimated by injuries. However, the season did end on a high note with Quarter Back Tom Worrall and Head Coach Jason Scott both having their jersey numbers, 11 and 99 respectively, being retired at the End of Season meal. Aces Captain and Running Back Adam Hope was awarded the League MVP Award for his consistently high performances throughout the season, with 10 yards per carry and over a 1000 yards in total. The Aces thanked all the graduating finalists for their services to club over the years and it was followed by a night to remember.
With eyes on the prize of a 4th National Title, the Aces players and coaches have worked hard over the off-season, both on the field and in the gym, ready to achieve success in the coming season. New Aces Head Coach Paul ‘Cowboy’ Sherratt, one of the greatest American Football minds in the UK, has pulled together an extensive coaching staff and written an exciting new playbook for the Aces. Second Year Linebacker Anssi Saari has returned to Loughborough with a successful stint at the Helsinki Wolverines where he helped them win the Finnish Division 1 Championships and was named MVP in the final. The Aces are also expecting good additions to the team in the form of John Varney and Jason Connolly who have both played for the GB Junior programme and many other rising stars who look to make their mark at the University level.
The Aces start their season at the Warwick Wolves and look to run the table once again to the playoffs and the National Championship game. If you would like more information please contact President Sam Ruddock.
