After a two week interrupted training schedule and numerous players absent due to exams, the Loughborough Aces arrived at Lincoln ahead of the their first game of 2011. Lincoln won the toss and chose to receive. The Aces kickoff unit managed to pin Lincoln inside their own 25 yard line and after great hustle around the pitch from the Loughborough defense the Colonials were forced to punt. The short punt was left alone by the Aces returners allowing the Loughborough offense to take the field just inside their own half. After a particularly messy two plays, the third resulted in a 55 yard touchdown and first score for Aces rookie receiver Chris ‘Awesome’ Ossum, which after a successful extra point gave the Aces an early 7-0 lead.

Another short kick return culminated in another three and out drive for the Colonials after more great penetration from the Aces defensive line. After a decent punt, Aces #8 Jack Daley allowed the ball to bounce before collecting it, proceeding to break six tackles and finding himself in the end zone for the second Aces score of the game. Score 14-0.

More great coverage from the Aces kickoff unit results in poor field position for Lincoln which was capitalized on by Loughborough’s ruthless defense who again forced Lincoln to punt after Aces safety Nick Jacquet recorded his first sack of his football career.

A short punt gave the Aces offense more good field possession which they appeared to have capitalized on when Adam Hope stormed into the end zone only to be called back after a questionable block in the back flag. Two plays later however, Adam Hope yet again parted the Lincoln defense two run in his first of the game increasing the Loughborough lead to 21 points.

After a good start to the game, the Aces kickoff unit experienced a major lapse in concentration as Lincoln were allowed to return the ball over halfway. With the Loughborough defense keen for their second straight shut out getting half a dozen players to every tackle, they again forced the Colonials to punt which was subsequently sliced off the punters boot providing the Aces defense with another great opportunity as the first quarter drew to a close.

On the first play of the second quarter, after some good blocking from the offensive line Adam Hope strolled into the end zone for his second score of the game making the score 28-0 in favor of the Aces.

After regrouping the Aces kickoff team kept the Colonials inside their own 20 yard line and soon after Lincoln were forced to punt again. The ball exchanged hands another two times as the Aces were turned over on downs and then Lincoln punted again giving the Aces good field position. Four plays later Aces Quarterback Tom Worrall rushed for his first touchdown of the game giving Loughborough a 35 point cushion.

The Aces started experimenting on special teams as they attempted a well rehearsed onside kick which they were very close to recovering. The defense yet again held strong forcing a further punt giving the Aces offense a small amount of time to score in the remainder of the first half however they were unsuccessful. The first half finished with the Aces leading 35-0.

After a short kick return at the start of the second half the Aces had the ball on their own 30 yard line. As Loughborough began to rotate out starting players, it was soon apparent that they had much strength in depth in the squad as no sooner have the offense taken the field than #42 JP Jones punched the ball into the end zone increasing the Aces lead to 42 points.

After another short return from Lincoln their offense took to the field but where soon off again as Aces #44 Ben Davies intercepted a stray throw. With more rotation in the Aces offensive unit Loughborough continued to increase their lead with Andy Mayall completing another successful drive after the turnover for the Aces. Score 49-0.

As the Aces defense also began rotating players, their concentration level did not falter as they forced yet another three and out drive as the game entered its forth quarter. For the first time in the game the Aces were forced to punt and after a great punt, Lincoln’s offense started five yards from their own end zone. One last three and out drive from Lincoln enabled the Aces offense to capitalize one last time as Aces #32 Stuart Kusca celebrated his first touchdown for the Aces and after an eighth consecutive extra point from the assured pairing of Tim Lewis and James Slack the Aces total now stood and 56 points.

In the final minutes of the game, Chris Tolley, moonlighting at defensive end, added an extra 2 points to the Aces total with a safety giving the game a final score of Loughborough Aces 58, Lincoln Colonials 0.
